needs.
Iridium Satellite Phone Service
Iridium is a commercial satellite phone service that operates on the Iridium satellite
network. Iridium's network of sixty-six orbiting satellites has been in full operation since 2001, and provide
global service to all parts of the world, including oceans, large landmasses, and Polar Regions. While there are
several other satellite phone systems in service, at this time only Iridium provides truly worldwide telephone
coverage.
Iridium Provides Reliable Global
Service
Whenever you need reliable phone service in an area without landlines
or cell phones, an Iridium Satellite phone is the ideal choice to keep you connected with business, family
and friends. Whether you are in the middle of the Pacific Ocean or somewhere in the Sahara Desert, as long as
you have a clear line of sight to the sky, Iridium phones can connect you to any phone number on earth, (with
the exception of embargoed or restricted phone service areas).
Reasonable Cost
Calls placed with the Iridium phone range are fairly
reasonable--ranging in price from about 99 cents to several dollars per minute--depending on the service
plan selected. Voice mail, text messaging and free incoming calls are available with Iridium service plans,
and there are no additional roaming or long distance charges when making outbound
calls.
Purchase or Rent
Purchasing a phone is a one-time expenditure; however, you will still
need to pay for activation fee, satellite access charges as well as per minute airtime rates. If you only
need the phone for a limited time, a rental phone is a more economical option, although you will still be
responsible for activation, access charges and airtime rates.
There are two Iridium handset phones available
for purchase or rent.
